It all started when…
Davonya Terri Campbell-Payton, affectionately known as Terri, was born and raised in the vibrant community of Greenville, North Carolina. She was raised in the world of theatre from her childhood. Her father, David Payton traveled nationally as an African American Playwright in Off-Off Broadway from 1990-2010. Her mother founded the Greenville Theatre Arts Center in 1992. Throughout her life, she creatively combines holistic HEALING practices, top-notch hospitality, and the enriching world of theatre arts as innovative tools to educate, promote, and spread awareness about the transformative power of artistic healing.
The Artistic Healing Experience was thoughtfully created by Terri to empower and educate individuals of all ages, using the magic of theatre to help them understand the profound journey of self-discovery, self-love, and the vital importance of self-discipline. This unique concept of Artistic Healing emphasizes a holistic focus on spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental alignment, promoting the values of freedom, truth, and art to inspire the youth and individuals within the broader community.
In 2020, she also proudly earned her End of Life Doula Certification, further enriching her toolkit for healing. Terri completed her first Bachelor's of Science degree in Hospitality in 2016 at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, NC, and is currently pursuing her second degree—a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre for Young Audiences—at East Carolina University School of Theatre and Dance.
Teaching artists, like Terri, can be found in a variety of environments, including schools, community centers, libraries, and institutions of higher education. They also grace museums, correctional facilities, businesses, and wellness centers with their invaluable presence. Teaching artists inhabit numerous spaces because they are incredibly versatile; they actively engage in creating art while simultaneously teaching others how to express their creativity as well. These dedicated individuals come from an array of artistic fields—music, dance, theatre, visual arts, writing, media, and so much more—bringing a wealth of experience and inspiration to every corner of the community.
