2025 SEASON HANDBOOK

Being a member of the Dance Team is a privilege, not a right. As a member, you represent the team, the school, and yourself; the code of conduct set forth should not be deviated from within practice, performances, and in the community.

Team members must show determination, dedication, and the desire to be on the team. On the team, we value self-care, self-love and self-discipline to ourselves and to each other. If members fail to carry out those qualities, further actions may then take place between the dancer and coach.

We expect all team members to uphold this behavior at all times. If member’s actions are deemed inappropriate and do not coincide with the team guidelines at any point in the season they will be denied participation on the team.

One verbal warning will be given for any unruly behavior in practice. This includes talking, non-participation or any behavior disruptive to the team. A dancer will be asked to leave practice after two warnings.

Coach Tee expects and respects communication. There is a level of commitment required to be a part of the Dance Team.

You must have a desired level of commitment not just for yourself, but for your ENTIRE team. Being on this team you depend on all of your other teammates to be at practice consistently and do their part in having the knowledge of their routine. If at any time you are not doing your part as a productive member of this team you will be suspended from the Dance Team.

PANTHERETTE ESSENTIALS

〰️

PANTHERETTE ESSENTIALS 〰️

  • All dancers must have a dance bag for practices, and performances. Dance bag needs to be labeled and all items need to be labeled with dancers name.

Here is a link to an optional North Pitt bag for those that want to purchase North Pitt official gear.

    https://www.spiritshop.com/school/north-carolina/bethel/north-pitt-high-school/product-1359?color_id=14001&top=North%20Pitt&bottom=Panthers&yearcombo=2026&name=Your%20Name&number=00&design_id=76019&photo=0&isUploaded=0&fc1=181C33&fc2=F47421

  • Team Rehearsal/Practice Attire:

If students do not have correct attire on, they will not be able to participate. Students will be stretching, working out, and moving so comfortable clothing is required.

Rehearsal clothing can have logos, graphic designs and colors. Does not have to be solid just mainly black or students can wear North Pitt apparel to rehearsals/practice.

    a. Black Shirt (Tank-tops, T-shirts, Spaghetti Straps, Etc.) or North Pitt Shirt

    b. Black Bottoms (Tights/Leggings, Sweatpants/Joggers, Shorts, Etc.) or North Pitt Pants

    c. Dance Socks (With Grips)

    d. Sneakers (Any Preference For Workouts Outdoors)

  • Dancers need to provide their own black Jazz shoes and nude (skin tone) dance tights. Dance tights are skin tone tinted to go underneath their shorts and costumes/outfits. Jazz shoes and dance tights are required for all performances.

  • Water & Snacks are essential: Students need to be hydrated and energized at all times. That means staying healthy and drinking water and eating.

Students need to pack extra water and snacks in their bags (labeled) for rehearsals and performances.

TEAM MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

〰️

TEAM MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS 〰️

  • The dance team is a semester long program. The football season is from August to November. The basketball season is from November to February. Team membership is a LARGE time commitment and should be considered a priority by all members. Dancers are asked to give great consideration to their pre-existing commitments and schedules before committing to team.

It is important that rides for dancers are prompt. Students are to be dropped off for practice 10 minutes before practice time. They are to be picked up NO LATER than 15 minutes after practice is over. Car pooling is highly recommended. We are now a family working together. Dancers & Parents/Guardians must sign the dance team contract the day before the first performance or dancer will not be able to perform.

  • Dancers MUST attend all required activities, such as dance camps, games, practices, performances unless dancer is ill or has communicated with coach. All events are mandatory. Failure to communicate or attend events could lead to suspension.

Only the reasons listed below are excused from any practice or activity.

    1.) Documented Illness

    2.) Funeral

3.) Special school activity – Must be discussed and approved by the coach in advance.

4.) Vacation – with parent’s note ahead of time.

    ● Please note that even an excused absence could cost you a performance depending on the date and length of the absence. A team member who is excused from a practice or event will not be permitted to perform with the team until he/she knows the routine to the coach’s satisfaction.

    ● A Dancer CANNOT miss more than 5 practices throughout the semester (use them wisely. I will take attendance).

    ● It is required that each dancer and a parent/guardian be present for all parent meetings.

    ● If a member knows in advance that they will be late or will be missing a practice/performance, they are to advise the coach immediately. Team members must be present at every mandatory practice for the entire practice time in order to be eligible to participate in upcoming events/games.

    ● If you miss a practice you must make up the material you missed BEFORE the next practice. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CATCH UP! We will not hold up practice to catch you up on material missed. Unfortunately, when you miss a practice, it affects the rest of the team more than it affects you because they are the ones who have to go back and relearn/refix the things you missed.

  • We expect all team members to uphold this behavior at all times.

All dancers must maintain appropriate grades and credits:

    • Passing 3 out of 4 classes during season

    • Embody good citizenship marks, attendance and class performance

  • Being a dancer on the team for one season does not guarantee a position the following semester. There well be Fall tryouts and Spring tryouts. All dancers are required to tryout or submit a video submission. Returning and qualifying members will be required to follow the Code of Conduct with no exceptions. Failure to be a leader and follow all rules will result in suspension/demotion/removal from the team. All returning, selected members and leaders will be held to a higher standard and will be encouraged to step up and take on the leadership role for the team.

  • A dancer that quits the team during the season is required to wait a semester before trying out again.

DANCE ENVIRONMENT

The following reasons determine whether or not a dancer will be allowed to perform on the dance line. There will be NO exceptions to these factors, so please read carefully.

● Lack of knowledge of a routine.

● Lack of ability to perform at required skill level for said routine.

● Attitude not promoting teamwork/sportsmanship.

● Lack of dedication/commitment being shown toward the Dance Team.

● Lack of improvement shown over time in a given routine.

● Disregard for the code of conduct and the rules and guidelines governing this school.

● Absences the week prior to a performance.

● Tardiness is also a factor. Missing more than the allotted 5 practices.

● Gossiping, instigating turmoil, or in any way causing conflict among members on the Dance Team.

● Not being grade eligible.

● Dancer's that are on suspension/probation.

● Not being in proper uniform to perform and performance ready by the arrival time listed on the performance sheet.

● Not being in attendance for required parent meetings/information sessions.

● A dancer will not be allowed to practice/perform if an injury occurs for which that dancer is unable to perform at their normal level.

● Dancers will not be allowed to participate until written clearance is obtained from a doctor.

DISCIPLINE POLICY

To maintain good discipline, our team puts great emphasis on positive relationships between the students, staff and parents. There are three strikes of disciplinary action. The strikes will be determined by how serious the act is or frequency of the act or both. Policy is as follows:

STRIKE I

1st offense: A warning. The student will be reminded of the rule he or she broke.

2nd offense: A temporary suspension. The student will sit out and lose an hour of participation.

STRIKE II

3rd offense: A week of suspension. Call parents notifying them of behavior and the necessity to pick the student up from the program and/or request assistance with the disciplinary process.

STRIKE III

We are unable to tolerate excessive disciplinary problems in our programs. Your student will no longer be permitted to attend and participate for the following reasons:

• Refusal to follow program rules (insubordination, etc.)

• If child inflicts harm on another child, causing injury

• Stealing

• Destruction of property

DANCE TEAM FUNDRAISERS

〰️

DANCE TEAM FUNDRAISERS 〰️

Funding is a huge part of our team. We need to continue providing resources and opportunities to our students. Our team requires and recommends our parents and community to unite to help raise awareness and support through creative events as a Pantherette Booster Program.

We try to alleviate cost on the parents by doing fundraisers thus being able to only get team essentials and gear. In order to do this we need the support of not only the dancers but also the parents to make fundraising a success. It is mandatory that all dancers/parents participate in fundraisers. The purpose and use of funds will be determined by the coach/school.

There is no financial cost to be a member of the dance team. Uniforms and properties are owned by North Pitt High School and must be returned at the end of the Season. Dancers will have to pay for shoes which range in price. Dancers also need to purchase nude dance tights for performances.

Practice wear, bags and jackets can be purchased by dancer and belong to dancer and may keep them.
